LottieFiles is freemium. The free plan covers unlimited previewing, testing, and sharing, unlimited uploads to the public library, a small number of private files, and a monthly cap on public downloads—with paid Individual, Team, and Team+ tiers, plus Enterprise contracts, raising those limits and adding team storage and collaboration. The important wrinkle is commercial use: creating or editing animations with the LottieFiles services is restricted to Team plans and above, while plain downloads of public animations sit under the Lottie Simple License instead.    Look for the behaviour you need—loading, success, empty state, celebration—then check that the file will read at your icon size.

Vector JSON, not video

Lottie stores motion as vector data, so files stay small and scale to any resolution—unlike a GIF or an MP4 render, which is why the same file works across screen densities.

Two different licenses apply

Public animations download under the Lottie Simple License, which permits commercial use and does not require attribution but makes derivatives carry the same terms. Marketplace and premium files come under the separate Terms of Sale.

The commercial-use rule surprises people

Permission to use LottieFiles services for commercial work starts at the Team plan; Free and Individual plans are limited to non-commercial use, so agencies shipping client work need the higher tier.

Free-plan ceilings

The free workspace caps private uploads at a handful of files and limits public downloads to a monthly quota, while public uploads stay unlimited. The quota resets on the first of each month.

Open-source runtimes

The player, dotLottie runtimes, and interactive libraries are published on the publisher’s GitHub organization, so the client side of the pipeline can be self-hosted.
