Upload an MP4, MOV, or WebM, then convert the first 3 seconds into a Live Photo.

Animated GIFs use /gif-to-livephoto. The first conversion downloads FFmpeg (about 25 MB) into this browser.

Turn a video into a Live Photo

Turn an MP4 or MOV into a 3-second Live Photo .livp file. Conversion runs in your browser. Free, no sign-in.

What is a video to Live Photo converter?

A video to Live Photo converter takes a short stretch of an MP4, MOV, M4V, or WebM and packs it the way Apple Photos expects a Live Photo: a JPEG still and an H.264 movie that share one content identifier, inside a .livp file. The clip is 3 seconds, starting where you set the slider. Soundtrack is kept when the file has one. The work runs in this browser with FFmpeg. AirDrop the .livp to an iPhone and save it to Photos. An animated GIF belongs on GIF to Live Photo Converter.

What the converter writes

One short movie, paired with the frame it starts on.
  1. Three-second Live Photo: Photos plays a brief clip. This page encodes 3 seconds from the start time you choose, not the whole video.

  2. Still plus movie: The download is a .livp package: IMG still JPEG and an H.264 MOV with a still-image-time mark on the first frame of that clip.

  3. Sound when the video has it: A soundtrack is encoded as AAC inside the movie. A silent file stays silent.

  4. Browser encode: The video is read as a local file. FFmpeg runs here, so the clip is not uploaded for conversion.

How to turn a video into a Live Photo

Pick the moment, encode 3 seconds, then move the .livp to Photos.
  1. Upload an MP4, MOV, or WebM

Files up to 80 MB. A sample clip is there if you want to see the package before using your own video.

  2. Set the start

The slider chooses where the 3 seconds begin. The still image is the first frame of that window.

  3. Download the .livp

Preview the movie in the page, then save live-photo.livp. AirDrop it to iPhone, open it from Files, and add it to Photos.

Import tips

How the file behaves once it is in Photos.
  • 01

Press and hold to test motion

In Photos, press and hold the picture. If it plays, the still and the movie were paired.

  • 02

Lock Screen motion is a separate switch

Saving to Photos does not by itself animate the wallpaper. Set the Live Photo as wallpaper and leave Live Photo motion on.

  • 03

    GIFs use the other converter

This page does not read GIF frames. Open GIF to Live Photo Converter for an animated GIF.

  • 04

    Shorter sources are fine

A clip under 3 seconds is used as-is. If the start time is past the end, move the slider back.

When to use it

Jobs a 3-second Live Photo package is built for.
  • A phone or camera clip

Turn a short MP4 into a Live Photo you can keep in the Photos library.

  • A moment inside a longer video

Slide the start time instead of exporting a new file in another app first.

  • Lock Screen motion

After the .livp is in Photos, it can be set as a Live Photo wallpaper.

What you get

A Photos-ready package from a video you already have.
  1. No account: There is no sign-in step and no watermark on the .livp.

  2. Local conversion: FFmpeg runs in the page. The video is not sent to a server to be encoded.

  3. A paired still: The JPEG and the movie share one identifier, which is what Photos uses to treat them as one Live Photo.

Technical details

How a video file becomes a .livp.
Encode
FFmpeg.wasm scales to even dimensions and writes H.264 (yuv420p) plus AAC when an audio stream is present. The clip length is 3 seconds.
Live Photo metadata
The MOV gets a content identifier and a still-image-time track. The JPEG gets the same identifier in an Apple MakerNote.
Limits
MP4, MOV, M4V, and WebM up to 80 MB. The start slider runs from 0 to 30 seconds.
