Instagram photo resizer for feed posts and stories

Resize photos to Instagram square, portrait, landscape, and 1080×1920 story sizes. Free, no sign-in.

What is an Instagram photo resizer?

An Instagram photo resizer fits a still image to the pixel sizes Instagram keeps for a feed upload, and to the 1080×1920 frame used for stories and Reels. Choose a square post (1080×1080), a 4:5 portrait (1080×1350), a landscape post (1080×566), or the story size when you need an Instagram story resizer. Cover mode center-crops so the frame is full. Contain mode fits the whole photo and paints the empty bars in a color you pick. The profile preset exports 320×320; Instagram shows that avatar as a circle, so use Profile Photo Maker or PFP Cropper when you want to preview the circle. Processing stays in the browser.

Instagram sizes you can export

Each preset writes an exact pixel canvas, not only an aspect ratio.
  1. Feed posts at 1080 px wide: Square (1080×1080), portrait 4:5 (1080×1350), and landscape 1.91:1 (1080×566). Those are the feed ratios Instagram keeps when the upload is at least 1080 px wide.

  2. Story and Reel frame: The story preset is 1080×1920 (9:16). Use it to resize an Instagram story or a Reel cover before you upload. Leave the top and bottom clear for the app’s username and reply bar.

  3. Crop or letterbox: Cover fills the frame and crops the overflow from the center. Contain keeps the entire photo and fills the leftover bars.

  4. Square profile export: Profile photos export at 320×320. This page does not punch a circle; open PFP Cropper if you need a circular preview.

How to resize a photo for Instagram

Pick the post or story size, then download.
  1. Upload a still photo

Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP. An example loads so you can try the sizes before you bring your own file. Animated GIFs are flattened to one frame here; use GIF Resizer to scale a GIF.

  2. Choose the Instagram size

Square, portrait, and landscape cover feed posts. Story / Reel is 1080×1920. Profile is 320×320. Cover crops to fill; contain fits the whole image.

  3. Download

Save PNG, JPG, or WebP at the pixel size shown under the preview. Switch to JPG when you want a smaller file for a story or feed upload.

Framing tips

How the export behaves once Instagram places it.
  • 01

Keep the subject centered for cover mode

Cover crops equally from the long edges. If a face sits in a corner, it can be cut off on a portrait or story frame.

  • 02

    Leave a margin on stories

Instagram draws the profile row at the top and the reply field at the bottom of a 1080×1920 story. Keep text and logos away from those bands.

  • 03

Start from a file at least 1080 px wide

Instagram scales wider uploads down to 1080 px. A smaller source will be enlarged by this tool and can look soft.

  • 04

Use contain when you cannot crop

Screenshots and graphics with type at the edges belong in contain mode. Match the bar color to the background of the artwork.

When to use this resizer

Jobs this page is built for.
  • Feed photos

Turn a camera JPG into a square, 4:5 portrait, or landscape post at 1080 px wide.

  • Stories and Reels covers

Resize a landscape or square still into a 1080×1920 story frame.

  • Profile avatars

Export a 320×320 square, then circle-crop it on PFP Cropper if you want to see the mask.

What you get

A fixed-size export you can upload without guessing the pixels.
  1. Exact output pixels: The preview line shows the width and height that the download will use.

  2. No account: The resizer runs in the page. There is no sign-in step and no watermark on the file.

  3. Local processing: The photo is drawn on a canvas in your browser. It is not uploaded to a server.

Technical details

How the Instagram sizes are produced.
Canvas draw
The tool uses Canvas 2D drawImage with high-quality smoothing. Cover and contain scale by one factor so the photo is not stretched.
Feed ratio range
Instagram keeps a feed photo when its aspect ratio sits between 1.91:1 and 4:5 and the width is in the 320–1080 px band. Wider files are reduced to 1080 px wide.
Input limits
JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF stills up to the site upload cap. GIF animation is not preserved on this page.
